Grape: 100% Aglianico. Region: Italy> Southern Italy> Basilicata> Vulture Notes: 8-12 months in American and French oak, 10 to 30yr. old vines, Organic.
After over 20 years of making wine in Tuscany, Fabrizio and Cecilia Piccin went in search of a different location to begin a new winery project. They settled on Basilicata, home to the Vulture volcano. The name Grifalco is a tribute to the family’s past and present: it combines the griffin, symbol of the Piccin’s original home of Montepulciano in Tuscany, and the falcon, symbol of Monte Vulture, their adopted home.
Ruby red in color with a purple center. Earthy aromas of black cherry and black pepper, with an elegant floral tone and robust herbal notes on the palate. This Aglianico is not shy about showcasing the volcanic minerality expressive of the Vulture region.
Food Pairing: Braised, grilled, or stewed meat, sausages, eggplant, grilled zucchini, pizza, lasagna, etc.
