Description: The Marchesi Incisa della Rocchetta is one of the historic Piedmontese families who have lived in Monferrato for more than a thousand years and since 1400 in the village of Rocchetta Tanaro. Fast forward to 1990 and the Marchesa Barbara Incisa della Rocchetta inherits and purchases from other members of the family part of the estate. She makes major investments in moving the winery from the centuries-old cellars of the family castle to La Corte Chiusa in the heart of the village. Barbera is a grape varietal indigenous to Piedmont and it’s one of the most important from this region. The wine displays colors of garnet and violet. Aromas of bay leaf (garrigue herbs), dried black currants, and a touch of ganache. Smooth tannins with a velvety texture with a juicy core of blackberries, myrtle berries, and bay leaves and marjoram toward the finish. A very nice wine to enjoy with or without food.
Food Pairings: Semi-soft cheese (Pecorino, fontina), barbecue, roasted or grilled (Chicken, lamb, pork), Pepperoni, pizza, risotto (mushroom), sausages, tomato sauce, root vegetables (roasted, grilled), hamburgers, pesto, etc.
