Grape: 100% Nebbiolo Region: Italy> Piedmonte> Barolo> Castiglione> Bricco Boschis Notes: Organic farming, Slavonian oak for 42 mos. Description: 2016 is the year for Barolo, greatest vintage in recent decades. In the monopole of Bricco Boschis, the Cavallotto family estate, founded in 1928, covers 23 hectares of contiguous land in Castiglione Falletto. It’s here that Barolo’s famed calcareous marl soils dominate, all at an elevation of almost 300 meters above sea level. 4th generation brother and Sister Olivio and Alfio Giuseppe farm organically and use 100% estate fruit. The family has mainteaned the traditions of the region: use of long macerationa and large neutral oak aging. 3111 cases were produced of the 2016 vintage.
“Cavallotto may very well be the greatest Barolo producer few people have ever heard of, something that continues to mystify me. Truth is, it isn’t just the Barolos here that are impressive, the entry-level wines are every bit as delicious and well-priced...Readers who appreciate a firm, classic style of Barolo will want to spend some time getting to know Cavallotto.” – Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate
