Description: Giorgio Rivetti, owner and winemaker of La Spinetta is a leading force in Piedmonte. He produces approachable yet age-worthy wines that command the attention of wine critics and consumers alike, year-in and year-out; their lushness, concentration, aromatics and length are unrivaled. The winery has attained the coveted "Tre Bicchieri award" for more than 30 of their wines throughout their relatively short career. "Vigneto Campe" vineyards sit on calcareous soil with south facing exposure 280 meters above sea level. The 2013 vintage rivals the 2008 vintage, both rated as "outstanding". Deep mahogany-red brick color. A seductive nose of rich mocha and tar. On the palate, lovely acid/alcohol balance for such a powerful wine. Beautiful progression of flavors as it opens - cigar tobacco, cherry licorice, and sweet tannins. Very good integration of tannins (dusty).
Food Pairings: Hard cheeses, wild mushroom, braised or grilled meats, oxtail, game, pasta with rich meat sauce, risotto, white truffles, etc. Decanting recommended or opening bottle 24 hours before serving.
