Definition: The recipe for Berto dates back to the 1930s and was resurrected by the Italian chef Federico Ricatto, and is produced by Carlo Quaglia. Bèrto is the nickname for Alberto, Federico’s nephew, who was born around the time he was recreating the recipe.
Vermouth is a fortified, aromatized wine. 'Fortified': the alcohol percentage of the base wine (or grape juice) has been raised through the addition of spirits. 'Aromatized': the base wine has been infused with botanicals- herbs, roots, flowers.
