Description: Created in 1919 by Luigi and Silvio Barbieri (and now owned by the Campari Group), Aperol is an Italian bitter aperitivo (apéritif) made primarily from gentian root, rhubarb and cinchona bark. Aperol has less alcohol than Campari and, although they have the same sugar content, Aperol is less bitter.
Aperitivo (apéritif) Definition: A low alcohol beverage usually served before meals to stimulate the appetite.
Classic cocktail suggestion: Aperol Spritz -- pour 2oz Aperol into wine glass, fill with ice, add a splash of soda water and top off with sparkling wine. Garnish with an orange peel. Enjoy and repeat.
