Description: Louis Roederer was established in 1827 by Alsatian born Louis Roederer. After the Napoleonic wars, Roederer built a relationship and reputation of the finest Champagne selling to the Romanoff family of Russia. The Roederer and Bouzaud families have kept control of the company since being established. Widow Camille Olry-Roederer guided the house during the depression and her keen business mind guided the house to purchase as many Grand Cru vineyards in Montagne de Reims, Marne Valley, and the best chalky vineyards in Cote des Blancs.
This Champagne "Collection 244" exhibits lovely golden yellow, a very champagne-like, hue. Dense and steady flow of extremely fine bubbles. Deep, broad bouquet of ripe fruit (wild peaches, williams pears) combined with citrus (lemons, blood oranges). The iodized and toasty notes, associated with the vinification process and the aging in wood, add aromatic freshness. Then come notes of chalk and a hint of reduction, suggesting that the wine will be concentrated and powerful. The entry to the palate is delicious showing a rich and robust texture. The wine caresses the palate but is then immediately lightened by the delicate bubbles. The length is created by a lovely backbone of chalky freshness. The wine is both delectably rich, with a slightly toasted character, and super fresh thanks to a salivating finish. The toasty notes then take over to underpin a very flavorsome finish.
