Description: Located in Calabria (the “toe” of the Italian map), Ciro is considered one of the oldest named wines in the world, with a winemaking history stretching back thousands of years.
Made from Gaglioppo, a southern Italian grape varietal that tends to show dark fruit, firm tannins, and terroir. This wine exhibits deep garnet color with a brickish red rim. Aromas of olive tapenade, capers, and black currants. The palate reveals dusty tannins with good acid/ alcohol balance. Medium-bodied with a juicy core of wild black fruit, bay leaves, capers, and wild strawberries on the finish. This is a wine that is drinking extremely well (1/29/25). ew
Food Pairing: Black olives, roasted meats, game, garlic heavy dishes, Mediterranean cuisine, capers, mature cheese, lasagna, hearty bean stews, etc.
