Grapes: 90% Nerello Mascalese, 10% Nerello Cappuccio. Region: Italy> Sicily> Calderara Sottana> Randazzo, Mount Etna. Notes: 60 to 70yr. old vines, 700-800 meters ASL, 24 months in neutral oak.
Description: The vineyards were abandoned until Barbara and Valter Grarotti bought the property located in the Northern part of Etna Vulcano in 2009. The indigenous grape varietal Nerello Mascalese vines were over 70 years old and with hard work and dedication, the Grarotti's brought them back to producing very low yields but excellent fruit quality. The volcanic soil, the strong temperature fluctuations between day and night, combined with the particular micro-climate gives the resulting wine, pronounced notes of minerals and a robust taste profile.
