Description: Established in 1896, Te Mata Estate remains family owned, producing internationally recognized wines exclusively from its Hawke’s Bay vineyards. Hawke’s Bay is a very special place for making wine. Its range of slopes, plains and climatic differences, coupled with low humidity and ample ultra-violet light, giving winemakers a comprehensive tool kit to showcase their skills. Soils are young and derived from the gravels, silt and sands left behind from the three main rivers of Hawke’s Bay changing course over thousands of years. Dark and brooding color in the glass, ink-black with a vivid magenta edge. Lifted aromatics of concentrated raspberry and crushed violets quickly become layer upon layer of exotic spices, fruit cake, pancetta, vanilla, and cocoa running the length of this wine’s luscious palate.
Food pairings: Beef (braised, grilled, stewed), duck, roasted game, lamb (grilled, roasted, stewed), mushroom dishes, venison, cheeses (brie, camembert, vermont cheddar, etc.), etc.
