Region: France> Loire Valley> Menetou Salon. Notes:Biodynamic. Spontaneous fermentation. Vegan. 25-30 y.o. vines
Description: Phillippe Gilbert returned home from a career as a playwright upon his father’s retirement to become the 9th successive generation of vigneron to produce wines on his estate. A true stewardship of the land, intimacy with the vineyard, and passion link Gilbert with his wines. Menetou-Salon, which sits just to the west of Sancerre on the same Kimmeridgian (Late Jurassic) clay and limestone soil, has a winemaking tradition that similarly reaches far back, either a thousand or seven hundred years. Yielded is a delight: a balanced pinot noir, a beautiful well-proportioned fruit entwined with a charming, cunning mineral earthiness (akin to Sancerre), chalkiness and steely zip. Wonderful young, develops with age.
Food Pairing: Chicken, veal, rabbit, roast fish, red snapper, prosciutto, Manhattan clam chowder, tomato dishes or stews, dirty rice, etc.
