Description: This is one of the two second wines of Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte. Le Petit Haut Lafitte is made from 40% Merlot and 60% Cabernet Sauvignon. Dense deep dark purple color. Long legs with seductive tears. Nose of cream, vanilla, butterscotch, mocha chocolate, sweet pipe tobacco, and cedar notes. Palate: silky sweet tannins, medium to full body, dark blackberry and loamy with a dry, structured mid palate of black cherries, currant and a subtle spice finish. An amazingly complex wine. With the dry finish and solid tannins it seems this wine will develop in bottle and the fruit will mellow leaving an exquisite Bordeaux. Potential for mid-term aging but drinks well now too.
