Grapes: 64% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Franc. Region: France> Bordeaux> Saint Emilion. Notes: Alain Vauthier-Maziere, owner of the prestigious Chateau Ausone releases Simard when he feels the wine is ready to drink.
Description: Merlot is king in Saint-Emilion with Cabernet Franc playing the queen. Clay, sand, and gravel are the perfect complement to the two varietals. Chateau Simard produces only one wine, it is a classic Saint Emilion, Bordeaux. A elegant wine that ferments in concrete vats, bottled and aged in the cellar until completely developed. Limestone and Iron-rich soil creates wonderful longevity and complex flavors. Though approachable now, this beautifully structured red will continue to evolve for another 3 to 5 years (now - until 2025).
