Grape: 100% Pinot Noir. Region: France> Burgundy> Cote de Beaune> Savigny-Les-Beaune> Aux Guettes Vyd. Notes: 1er Cru (Premier Cru), 12 months in French and American oak maturation (10%-25% new).
Description: This family-run winery in Nuits-Saint-Georges was established in 1983 by the winemaker Arnaud and his two sons, Alban and Alexis. They have made it their project to rehabilitate old hillside vineyards that were abandoned due to war and/or Phylloxera. Today the vineyards are in excellent condition, with vines averaging an age of 30 years and some vines dating back to 1914. All the fruit is harvested by hand and the red is fermented with 10%-20% whole clusters. The wines are aged 12 months in French and American oak (10-25% new). Beautiful garnet color with a touch of ruby along the rim. On the nose the wine screams umami, musk oil, and game. The fruit is revealed on the palate with bright acidity (med.+) and soft dusty tannins that are well integrated. A juicy core of black cherry and musk are intertwined with notes of cumin and nutmeg. Long umami finish.
Food pairing: Cheeses (mild and soft), duck, chicken (roasted, grilled), Beef (braised, roasted, stewed), mushroom dishes, game, lamb (roasted, grilled, stewed), cornish hens, truffles, swordfish, salmon (baked, grilled, roasted), veal, turkey, vegetables, beef bourguignon, Coq au vin, eggplant, vegetables, etc.
