Description: A fourth-generation family farm, Kanonkop Estate is one of the oldest of the Pinotage vineyards located in South Africa. Operating since the 1930’s and facilitated by brothers Johann and Paul Krige, Kanonkop combines traditional and modern techniques. Grapes are fermented in concrete, then aged in oak barrels. This multi award-winning winery produces one of Cape Town’s finest Pinotage. The "Cape Blend" is a South African wine term (no legal requirements) that means the wine must have Pinotage (30% or more) in the final blend. After aeration the wine opens up with an array of dried beef (jerky), char smoke, forest floor, and red currants. Medium to full-bodied on the palate with good acid/ alcohol balance.
Food Pairing: Roasted fowl, barbecue ribs, grilled meats (lamb, beef, pork), hearty stews, beef jerky (Biltong), game (venison, goat, etc.), liver, etc.
