Madeira is a fortified wine, who’s name derives from the island of Madeira, a Portuguese-owned archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean. Madeira’s unique taste comes from repeatedly heating the wine. The early Modeira was the wine that had traveled a long, hot, tropical voyage on a boat. Heating creates a wine with fascinating flavors of roasted nuts, stewed fruit, caramel, and toffee. Broadbent is known as one of the most important Madeira producers.
