Region: Southern France> Languedoc> Catelnau-de-Gues. Grape: Picpoul. Notes: No oak. Long lees contact.
Description: Domaine de Montedon has been in the Cante family since 1945 in the village of Castelnau-de-Guers by the Mediterranean’s Thau Basin, a natural lagoon that is one of the finest sources for oysters and other shellfish in southern France, and is a natural habitat for pink flamingo. Picpoul is a variety that has been growing in the area for centuries. Its lemon-citrus oil and mineral characteristics make it the perfect accompaniment to shellfish and seafood – think the Mediterranean version of Muscadet. L’Etang is one of only few estate wines in the appellation, as cooperative wineries make up majority of Picpoul de Pinet production.
Food Pairing: shellfish, seafood, salads.
